LG CNS is joining hands with DaehanSteel to commercialize a solution that uses AI to recognize and classify steel scrapl. LG CNS announced on the last 2nd that it launched ‘Aimos’, a joint venture with DaehanSteel on the 30th of last month to carry out AI solution business in earnest. Aimos plans to be in charge of a solution business that uses AI to determine steel scrap.
Steel scrap refers to scrap metal and iron scraps. LG CNS explained that demand for electricity generation using steel scrap is steadily increasing as it produces less carbon dioxide than the furnace method using coal. IMOS' AI steel scrap judgment solution uses an AI vision camera to scan steel scrap and identify hundreds of pieces of steel scrap loaded on a truck. It sorts the grade of steel scrap in accordance with Korean industrial standards, including high-quality unprocessed 'raw iron' such as pipes without plating and painting, bulky and heavy 'heavy' such as dismantled large machinery, and 'lightweight' such as household scrap metal such as bicycles and farm equipment.
For this purpose, LG CNS trained the AI model on data such as images and items of Daehan Steel's hundreds of thousands of steel scraps, the ratio of iron for each item, and the grade. The solution is a cloud-based service and will be supplied to customers through software as a service (SaaS). IMOS also plans to advance its AI steel scrap judgment solution by collaborating with ‘Spineature’, the largest steel scrap distributor in Korea.
Chi-hoon Oh, the CEO of DaehanSteel, said, “We will spread a virtuous resource cycle structure through active use of steel scrap and accelerate sustainable growth from an ESG perspective.” Shin-kyun Hyun, CEO of LG CNS, said, “We will continue to develop the digital transformation (DX) technology of ‘Aimos’ together with Daehan Steel so that the steel industry can advance the establishment of an eco-friendly production system.”
